Mommy’s Big, Red Monster Truck is narrated by a little boy who describes his mom’s truck, the places they have been, and the things they have seen all the while traveling in this HUGE truck. The storyline also shows the relationship between mother and son. The way the boy narrates the story encourages other kids to appreciate their moms, be helpful, and enjoy the memories you can make with your mom through travel.
This children’s book has many strengths. First, each page is full of vibrant and child-centered illustrations that are sure to engage young readers. Second, the words accentuated with various colors, sizes, and fonts assist readers with actions words, excitement, and highlight some of the main points in the storyline. Third, Mommy’s Big, Red Monster Truck has a huge connection to a love of travel, geography, and the appreciation for discovering new places. This prompts open-ended questions for young readers and allows them to discuss where they have traveled to and where they might like to visit someday. Last, the storyline includes the sweet relationship between mother and son. That is evident in how the little boy narrates the story and shows a great appreciation for his mother.
My Final Thoughts
This adorable book is such a fantastic choice for children ages five and up. The colorful illustrations are surely to engage readers and the storyline allows ways to expand learning. Travel, geography, cars, parent-child relationships, and responsibility are all mini themes that educators could use to incorporate learning. I highly recommend this book for young readers and know they will enjoy it as much as I did.
