Synopsis

Mommy’s Big, Red Monster Truck is narrated by a little boy who describes his mom’s truck, the places they have been, and the things they have seen all the while traveling in this HUGE truck. The storyline also shows the relationship between mother and son. The way the boy narrates the story encourages other kids to appreciate their moms, be helpful, and enjoy the memories you can make with your mom through travel.

Strengths

This children’s book has many strengths. First, each page is full of vibrant and child-centered illustrations that are sure to engage young readers. Second, the words accentuated with various colors, sizes, and fonts assist readers with actions words, excitement, and highlight some of the main points in the storyline. Third, Mommy’s Big, Red Monster Truck has a huge connection to a love of travel, geography, and the appreciation for discovering new places. This prompts open-ended questions for young readers and allows them to discuss where they have traveled to and where they might like to visit someday. Last, the storyline includes the sweet relationship between mother and son. That is evident in how the little boy narrates the story and shows a great appreciation for his mother.

My Final Thoughts

This adorable book is such a fantastic choice for children ages five and up. The colorful illustrations are surely to engage readers and the storyline allows ways to expand learning. Travel, geography, cars, parent-child relationships, and responsibility are all mini themes that educators could use to incorporate learning. I highly recommend this book for young readers and know they will enjoy it as much as I did.

With a lifelong love of children’s literature, Alison Paul Klakowicz earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from East Carolina University, as well as a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA. She worked for over a decade as a human services professional and counselor, and has also worked as a journalist and freelance writer.

Alison is a native of North Carolina, where she still lives with her son, Mak, and husband, Adam. She is a military spouse who resides in Fayetteville, NC. They enjoy spending time with their loved ones on the North Carolina coast, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the Poconos Mountains. Whenever they get the chance, they go on adventures, making priceless memories. Mommy’s Big, Red Monster Truck is her first book.
