Life is never easy and there will always be bumps in the road. For as long as I can remember, I have turned to faith during tough times. There was a time in my life, after tragedy, that I turned my back on God. That was a huge mistake and a big lesson learned. God never leaves our side, most especially during troubled times when we need him the most. The best thing you can do is to study and understand scripture to regain hope. It will bring comfort during some of the most devastating of times.
We have faced a catastrophic Hurricane this week and weekend in North Carolina, my home state. There are so many cities under water, fatalities, people who have lost everything, and power outages spread across the entire state. As most of us sit in the darkness and listen to wind gusts howling outside of our homes, I want us to also remember who is watching over us through every storm in life; almighty God.
Below are five scriptures I hope you will focus on to carry you through troubled times and give you hope when you need it the most.

1-“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Psalms 56:3
If you turn to God, he will comfort your fears. He is by your side always and ready to take on the very things that frighten you. Trust in him and talk to him frequently.

2-“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you.” Isaiah 43:2
God never leaves your side, even if you turn your back on him. That is what he whispers to your heart. He is with you constantly. You have to first let him in to hear his whispers.

3-“God promises to make something good out of the storms that bring devastation to your life.” Romans 8:28
God knows the devastation you are facing and he is right there waiting to lift you back up from it. He will always make something beautiful arise from your pain and tragedy. Allow him to whisper to your heart and you’ll see that he was there the entire time. We will not always understand life’s tragedies, but God promises to take the bad and replace it with good.

4-“He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul.” Psalms 23:2-3
We all get to a point in a situation, where we do not feel like we can carry on anymore. I can attest to this through grief. It surely takes a toll on you. That is when the power of God comes in and restores your soul. He will breathe life back into you, when you are weak.

5-“For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:10
God is a miracle worker! He has the power to turn things around for you, no matter the situation. Strength comes through the Holy Spirit. When you feel weak, lean on him to regain strength.
