I am honored to be part of WOW! Women on Writing’s blog book tour! For this tour, I was gifted a copy B. Lynn Goodwin’s memoir titled Never Too late: From Wannabe to Wife at 62, in exchange for an honest review of the book. Lynn stopped by the blog earlier this week to talk about online dating and to promote this amazing read.
How did I get involved with a book review?
I didn’t develop a love of reading until my late twenties. That’s weird, I know, coming from a former language arts teacher. When I came across an opportunity to read and review this book, I had to accept it for several reasons. First, I’m a huge sucker for a good love story as I am a hopeless romantic. Second, this book seemed to have a love story that I could partially relate to. I didn’t marry my husband until my mid-thirties, which by southern standards is very late in life for a first time marriage. I also met my husband in an online capacity. Lastly, my favorite type of reading material is non-fictional stories and biographies. There is always something to be learned from the lives and stories of others as you will see in this book by B. Lynn Goodwin.
What are the military connections in the story?
- Richard, from the story, is a Vietnam Vet. He served in the Navy along with his father, who was a Navy pilot. According to Lynn Goodwin, “he was shot down over Saipan in July of 1944. Richard was born at the end of September that year.”
- Online Dating is super prevalent in the military world. Many military couples have met online, just like my husband and I.
Who is this memoir for?
This book is for anyone who enjoys a good romantic love story. It’s also very inspirational for women who are still searching for their match. Lynn’s witty humor explains the many struggles she had as an independent and established woman. It was difficult for her to let go and allow a man to become part of her world, but love always wins. There are many women who can completely relate to Lynn’s story.
My thoughts on B. Lynn Goodwin’s book:
This story was extremely entertaining. I especially loved the humor and the struggles that Lynn faced as she acclimated into a new and unique relationship. It was nice to hear her reflections on the relationship as the story went on. I truly could not put this book down and found it to be easy to follow, interesting, and fun to read. This is a true story about Lynn and Richard and how compromise, friendship, letting go of fear, and faith play a big part in the fundamentals of a strong marriage.
